UNIVERSAL CITY. This impressive, three-story club pays tribute to soulful blues legend B.B. King and features musicians playing blues, jazz, funk, and R&B. Crowds include all sorts of folks, from fledgling talents to tourists and neighborhood aficionados. Fellow musicians also drop by frequently to enjoy the authentic sounds and munch on tasty Creole-inspired fare. Sundays are especially popular thanks to live gospel music and either brunch or patio barbecues. Your toes will surely be tapping.

DOWNTOWN. For an unrivaled view of the city, this lofty lounge is tops. The signature space not only affords a stunning vista of downtown lights and buildings, but it rotates as well, making a complete cycle every hour. While the interior isn't cutting-edge swanky, and while drink prices can be somewhat steep, the longevity of the lounge is admirable, and cocktails served in specially shaped mugs make for an ideal stop, especially for tourists.

HERMOSA BEACH. There's no denying that Café Boogaloo offers a wealth of entertainment - there's a live blues band here least five nights a week and sometimes more. The cover charge may vary, and you will need to make reservations by phone if you want to dine before the bands hit the stage. The bar offers a wide selection of drinks, including 27 microbrews, so you're sure to find something that fits your taste.

SHERMAN OAKS. This welcoming cafe offers something for everyone amid its dim, atmospheric confines. A variety of live music is presented Wednesday through Saturday evenings. Patrons have suddenly found themselves listening to comedians like Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfield, Jim Carrey, and Gary Shandling and magicians like Harry Anderson. Jay Leno regularly makes a Sunday appearance, and you can also see variety acts featuring jugglers and mimes.
